From 15-19 August 2016 a delegation from the Directorate of Statistics of the Federal Government of Somalia, Department of Statistics in Somaliland and Puntland together with Statistics Sweden had organized a study tour to National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) to share experiences .

The trip also presents an opportunity for Somali statistical management team to better discuss the cooperation between Somali statistical authorities and NISR.

In addition, the aim was to enable Somali statistical managers on study visit to fully appreciate the experience of Rwanda in terms of management especially in planning and monitoring of work, organisation of national statistical system, communication and dissemination of official statistics.

“We, as NISR, come from very far, we met challenges that we overcame and we are now successively implement NSDS2” said Murangwa Yusuf Director General of NISR.

The other objective of the study trip is to facilitate an exchange of experience in the production of certain statistics such as national account, price statistics and trade statistics.

Mr. Mohamed Moalim, Director General of the National Statistics in Ministry of Planning and international coorperation, appreciated the opportunity given to them to visit NISR. “We hope that we will be able to astablish a close collaboration and working ralationaship in the future.” He added.

“We benefited a lot from this visit; especially in the area of data dissemination” Said Mr. Hussein Abdi, Director General, Puntland.

NISR is a 10 years old institution and has shared experience with so many countries namely, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Gambia, Kenya, Uganda and others.
