5th International Conference on Big Data for Official Statistics

Overview

The United Nations Global Working Group (GWG) on Big Data for Official Statistics was created under the UN Statistical Commission in 2014. The GWG provides strategic vision, direction and the coordination of a global programme on the use of new data sources and new technologies, which is essential for national statistical systems to remain relevant in a fast-moving data landscape.

Workshop on SDGs metadata sharing and exchange in Rwanda

From 15th to 17th January 2019, the the UN Statistics Department in collaboration with DFID and the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda jointly organized a workshop on SDGs metadata.

The workshop brought together staff responsible for compilation and reporting on SGDs from  NISR as well as representative from line ministries and institutions that deal with data on SDGs indicators.

NISR and MoH Joinly launch 6th Rwanda Demographic Health Survey

 

The Permanent Secretary of ministry of Health, Mr. Jean Pierre NYEMAZI together with Director General of NISR Mr. Yusuf MURANGWA jointly presided over a first preparatory meeting on the 6th Rwanda Demographic Health Survey.

Permanent Secretary of ministry of Health, Mr. Jean Pierre NYEMAZI highlighted the importance of DHS as one of the crucial and big surveys that give data for health planning and SDGs.

Newly Appointed Minister of State in charge of Economic Planning Visits NISR

May  30, 2018- The newly appointed Minister of State in charge of Economic Planning, Dr. Claudine Uwera, paid a visit to the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) and met with NISR Director General, Yusuf Murangwa, as well as with the senior management team.
The purpose of the visit was to meet the management team and have discussions on the work done and challenges at NISR.

AfDB's technical assistance team to maintain the Rwanda Open Data platform up to date

Through the Africa Information Highway (AIH) program, the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) provided an Open Data Platform (ODP) to all African countries. The main objective of this initiative is to assist African countries to improve their data dissemination system and data submission system.
