Rwanda posts 3.97 pct annual growth in producer price index

Rwanda’s general producer price index, combining both prices for local and export products registered an annual growth of 3.97 percent in the fourth quarter of 2017 compared with the same period of 2016, while on quarterly basis it increased by 0.10 percent compared with the third quarter.

The main drivers for these changes were manufacturing, mining and quarrying, and electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply activities.

In the meanwhile local index for local products registered a decrease of 0.61 percent in the fourth quarter of 2017 compared to the index of the same quarter of 2016, and a decrease of 0.78 percent compared to the index of the previous quarter. The main drivers for these changes were manufacturing, and electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply activities.

Finally, the index for exports registered an increase of 13.91 percent in the third quarter of 2017 compared to the index of the same quarter of 2016, and an increase of 2.52 percent compared to the index of the previous quarter. The main drivers for these changes were tea, non-ferrous metal ores, and coffee.
