Rwanda's CPI up 7.3 pct year on year in December 2016

Rwanda’s Consumer Price Index (CPI), main gauge of inflation has risen 7.3 percent year on year in December 2016 up from 6.4 percent in November 2016.

In December 2016, ‘Food and non-alcoholic beverages’, ‘Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels’ and Transport rose by 16.4 percent, 1.4 percent and 7.7 percent respectively. 

The data also show the “local goods” increased by 7.1 percent on annual change and increased by 0.2 percent on a monthly basis, while prices of the “imported products” increased by 7.9 percent on annual basis and increased by 0.6 percent on a monthly basis.

The prices of the “fresh products” increased by 17.2 percent on annual change and decreased by 0.6 percent on a monthly basis.
