RPHC4 Thematic Report: Marital status and Nuptiality
The analysis of marital status and nuptiality is important in helping us to understand the dynamics of a society and how it changes over time. Marriage is an important factor in regard to fertility, especially in Rwanda where thelarge majority of children are born in wedlock.
The results of the Fourth Rwanda Population and Housing Census (RPHC4) show that nearly half of the population aged 12 and above is married. However, between 1978 and 2012 the percentage of married people has decreased.
RPHC4 : Provisional Results
In view of the Presidential Order No. 02/01 of 07/02/2011, the Government of Rwanda has decided to conduct the fourth Population and Housing Census in August 2012. The Government,in partnership with development partners, has made available adequate resources required to conduct this massive statistical undertaking. The 2012 Census operation was coordinated by the National Census Commission. Various census technical and administrative structures were put in place to ensure a successful census operation.
Synthesis of the analyses of the 2002 Census of Rwanda
The main objective of this 3rd census was to gather up-to-date and reliable data that could be immediately utilisable for the reconstruction of the country and for the more consistent planning towards a sustainable socio-economic development of the country.
National Population Projection (2007-2022)
Population Projections are usually carried out immediately after the release of census results so as to provide annual estimates of future population counts broken down by age and sex. Nonetheless, projections are to be updated whenever new evidences concerning factors of population growth emerge, especially when such evidences are different from the assumptions on which the projection was based.

The General Census of Population and Housing held in August 2002, which was the third in Rwanda, after those of 1978 and 1991, was organized at a particularly crucial period in the history of the country. It was carried out some eight years after the war and the genocide which took away the lives of a large number of Rwandans and caused the displacement of several others both within and outside the national territory.
