The National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) is the central agency responsible for the production and dissemination of official statistics in Rwanda, and the overall coordination of the National Statistical System NSS). As part of its mandate to promote statistical literacy and enhance public understanding of key statistics, NISR organizes an annual Infographic Competition.
This competition encourages students to creatively transform statistical reports published on the NISR website into visually engaging and informative infographics. By simplifying complex statistical information, these infographics make the data more accessible and easier for the public to understand, fostering a greater appreciation for the importance of statistics among young people
COMPETITION TOPICS:
participants are requested to visualize both static and dynamic infographics that highlight a data story from one of the following reports.
- Create both infographics (static and dynamic) that tell a data story from key indicators from the Rwanda Demographic Health Survey 2025
- Create both infographics (static and dynamic) that tell a data story from key indicators from the Rwanda Vital Statistics from 2019–2025.
- Create both infographics (static and dynamic) that tell a data story from key indicators from the Seasonal Agriculture Survey - Annual Report 2025.
Requirements for Participation
- Competition is Open to all undergraduate and master’s students enrolled in recognized universities and higher learning institutions in Rwanda.
- Participants must be currently enrolled and able to provide proof of student status when required.
- Final-year students and female students are strongly encouraged to participate.
- Teams of two (2) students, from the same or different universities.
- Students must have a student card or other official document confirming he/her eligibility.
- For students, form a team of 2 from any university.
- Students from the final year and female participants are encouraged.
- Both static and Dynamic Infographics will be submitted via NISR’s website.
- By entering the competition, the entrants agree to grant permission to NISR to use and reproduce their work, with appropriate acknowledgment.
- Plagiarism is prohibited. You must declare that the submission is your own work and that all sources of reference are acknowledged in full. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
EVALUATION CRITERIA:
Submissions will be assessed on the following dimensions:
- Accuracy of Data: Correct use, interpretation, and source integrity of NISR statistics.
- Clarity of Message: Clear communication of the main statistical finding.
- Quality of Visualization: Effective use of charts, graphs, maps, and icons.
- Creativity & Innovation: Originality and innovative presentation of data.
- Visual Design & Attractiveness: Layout, typography, composition, and appeal.
- Simplicity & Accessibility: Ability to simplify complex data for non-technical audiences.
- Data Storytelling: Coherent narrative highlighting insights and context.
- Relevance & Usefulness: Societal, policy, or developmental significance.
- Originality & Compliance: Creative effort, proper attribution, and adherence to guidelines
Prizes and Value Addition
- Top 3 teams for Infographic will receive high-quality laptops for each member. In addition, students from winner teams who are in their final year of study will be awarded professional internship after their graduation.
- Finalists will showcase their work during the awards ceremony, gaining visibility and recognition.

Important Dates
- 25 August – 5th October 2026: Open for registration Period
- 31 October 2026: Submission deadline (The link for submission will be uploaded on the NISR website 10 days before the deadline).
- 15 November 2026: Notification for the results from the evaluation
- 21–29 November 2026: Infographics technical mentorship & skills development and final presentation.
- The awards ceremony will be communicated in December 2026.
