Every year in November, the African statistical community celebrates the African Statistics Day (ASD) with the objective of raising public awareness about the importance of statistics in the economic and social development of the continent. The decision of celebrating ASD every year was taken since 1990 by the twenty-fifth session of the United Nations Economic for Africa and the Sixteenth Meeting of African ministers responsible for Economic Planning and development. It is in this context that thee National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) has been organizing an annual competition intended for University students.

This event is conducted by inviting graduate and postgraduate students of educational institutions of higher learning (both public and private) in Rwanda to produce winning static infographics by participating in the NISR Infographic Competition.

In August 2025 (Q3), the working age population (16 years and above) was around 8.6 million of whom around 4.9 million were employed, 754 thousand were unemployed, and 2.9 million were out of labour force.
