citizens outreach at Musanze

To continue the celebration of World Statistics Day, which took place on 20th October 2025 under the theme “Quality Statistics and Data for Everyone,” NISR organized a citizen outreach campaign in Nyabihu and Musanze Districts to bring statistics closer to the people, especially those living in rural areas, and help them understand how data could be useful in their daily lives.

This outreach was done with Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA) through its popular sports radio show “Urubuga rw’Imikino” on Radio Rwanda. The program combined fun sports discussions with educational talks about statistics, making learning enjoyable and interactive.

Through this campaign, the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) helped citizens know how statistics guide national development and how it can  support their own choices from planning farm activities and running businesses.

Linking real-life examples to data, NISR hoped to build a stronger connection between citizens and the value of accurate information. “In line with this year’s theme, ‘Quality Statistics and Data for Everyone,’ we are reaffirming our commitment to make reliable data accessible and useful to all, bringing statistics closer to citizens helps them understand how data supports better decisions for themselves and the nation.” said KAYITESI Claudette The director of Statistical Methods, Research, and Publications (SMRP)

The outreach encouraged active participation through interactive activities and small rewards for quiz winners. These incentives motivated citizens to take part, learn more about statistics, and appreciate their importance. The interactive approach not only built enthusiasm but also helped create a culture where data are valued, understood, and used by everyone in making informed decisions for personal and national growth.

In addition, the campaign provided a platform for citizens to engage directly in conversations about data. Through open discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and radio interactions, people shared their views, asked questions, and better understood how data was collected and used. This dialogue helped clarify statistics, making it easier for everyone to see how their participation in surveys and censuses contributed to shaping national policies.

Through this campaign, the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) made statistics more meaningful and useful to citizens. It aimed to show people how data connected to their everyday activities such as farming decisions, business planning, education, and health choices so they could see its real value. The campaign also sought to spark more interest in data among rural communities, helping them understand that everyone contributed to and benefited from reliable information. Engaging directly with citizens, NISR build stronger trust and encouraged them to participate actively in data collection processes.

As Rwanda continued to promote evidence-based planning and development, World Statistics Day 2025 served as a reminder that statistics are for everyone. By reaching out directly to communities, NISR enhanced citizens’ capacity to understand, value, and use reliable data for informed decisions that fostered individual well-being and national development.
