Rwanda's inflation is negative 0.1 pct year on year in May 2021

Rwanda’s Consumer Price Index (CPI), main gauge of inflation decreased by 0.1 percent year on year in May 2021 down from 2.4 percent in April 2021.

In May 2021, Food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 0.3 percent on annual basis and decreased by 2.3 percent on monthly basis. Alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics increased by 9.8 percent on annual change and decreased by 0.1 percent on monthly basis. Transport decreased by 13.8 percent on annual basis and increased by 0.3 percent on monthly basis. Education increased by 10.8 percent on annual basis and was stable on monthly basis

The data also show the “local goods” decreased by 1.8 percent on annual change and decreased by 0.8 percent on monthly basis, while prices of the “imported products” increased by 5.2 percent on annual basis and increased by 0.6 percent on monthly basis.

The prices of the “fresh products” decreased by 0.8 percent on annual change and decreased by 4.3 percent on monthly basis.

The prices of the “Energy” increased by 0.1 percent on annual change and increased by 1 percent on monthly basis.

The prices of the “General Index excluding fresh Products and energy” was stable on annual change and increased by 0.4 percent on monthly basis.
