Labour Force Survey Trends-May 2021(Q2)

The Labour Force Survey (LFS) programme collect data on employment and labour underutilization characteristics of the population on a continuous basis, providing quarterly estimates of the main labour force aggregates with sufficient precision at the National level since 2016.
The Rwandan Quarterly LFS programme is in line with the international standards on the topic and the specific data requirements of the main stakeholders namely Ministry of Public Service and Labour (MIFOTRA) and Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MINECOFIN), International Labour Organization (ILO), World Bank, and other statistical users.

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic that has locked down almost all economic activity since mid-March 2020 and as a result the Labour Force Survey (LFS) had to change the way it contacted people for initial interviews, from face-to-face interviewing to telephone-based interview. The present report is for the first quarter (Q2) of 2021 whose data collection was conducted from 5th to 30th May 2021 in all the districts of Rwanda using Telephone based interviewing.
