Rwanda January CPI rises 2.43 pct year on year

Rwanda's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, has risen 2.43 percent year on year in January 2014, down from 3.65 percent in December 2013.

In January 2014, “food and non alcoholic beverages” rose 2.44 percent year on year, while prices of “Restaurants and hotels” and “Education” moved up 8.87 and 7.07 percent respectively.

Food prices account for about one-third of the CPI weight.

The data also shows the “local goods” increased by 2.38 on annual change with a monthly change of +0.09, while prices of the “imported products” increased by 2.62 on annual change with a monthly change of +0.58.

The prices of the “fresh products” had a positive annual change of 1.56 between January 2014 and January 2013.
