Rwanda's CPI up 6.5 pct year on year in May 2017

Rwanda’s Consumer Price Index (CPI), main gauge of inflation has risen 6.5 percent year on year in May 2017 down from 7.3 percent in April 2017.

In May 2017, ‘Food and non-alcoholic beverages’, ‘Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels’ and Transport rose by 14.3 percent, 1.8 percent and 5.4 percent respectively. 

The data also show the “local goods” increased by 6.4 percent on annual change and decreased by 0.2 percent on a monthly basis, while prices of the “imported products” increased by 6.8 percent on annual basis and was stable on a monthly basis. The prices of the “fresh products” increased by 14.0 percent on annual change and decreased by 2.4 percent on a monthly basis.
