Rwanda's inflation is 4.3 pct year on year in January 2022

Rwanda’s Consumer Price Index (CPI), main gauge of inflation increased by 4.3 percent year on year in January 2022 up from 1.9 percent in December 2021.

In January 2022, Food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 4.5 percent on annual basis and increased by 5.1 percent on monthly basis. Education increased by 19.2 percent on annual change and was stable on monthly basis. Transport increased by 4.7 percent on annual basis and increased by 0.7 percent on monthly basis. ‘Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels’ increased by 2.6 percent on annual basis and increased by 0.8 percent on monthly basis.

The data also show the “local goods” increased by 3 percent on annual change and increased by 2.2 percent on monthly basis, while prices of the “imported products” increased by 8.6 percent on annual basis and increased by 1.6 percent on monthly basis.

The prices of the “fresh products” increased by 2.2 percent on annual change and increased by 7.5 percent on monthly basis.

The prices of the “Energy” increased by 6.6 percent on annual change and increased by 1.6 percent on monthly basis.

The prices of the “General Index excluding fresh Products and energy” increased by 4.6 percent on annual change and increased by 0.9 percent on monthly basis.
