The African Statistics Day (ASD) of every November 18th was adopted in May 1990 by the Twenty-fifth Session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the Sixteenth Meeting of the African Ministers responsible for Economic Planning and Development to be celebrated each year with an objective of increasing public awareness about the important role which statistics play in all aspects of social and economic life on our countries and the continent.

This year’s theme, “Making every woman and man count: Engendering Statistics for better Development Outcomes”, was chosen in order to highlight the importance of Women and Men in the development of a nation.
