The National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) successfully concluded a one-day workshop today, bringing together key government ministries and agencies under the Social Cluster to discuss the findings of the Fifth Rwanda Population and Housing Census (RPHC-5). The event, held at the NISR Training Center, aimed to ensure that census data is effectively used in policy formulation and national planning.
During the workshop, NISR presented key demographic, social, and economic indicators derived from the RPHC-5, which was conducted in August 2022. The findings, which include 18 thematic reports, 30 District Profiles, and subnational population projections, provide critical insights to guide decision-making at both national and local levels.

Speaking at the event, Beatrice UWAYEZU, Acting Director of Censuses Unit, emphasized the importance of census data in shaping Rwanda’s development strategies. “The RPHC-5 is a primary source of data for policy formulation, program implementation, and monitoring in areas like social and economic development, environmental sustainability, and national development planning, providing essential data for informed decision-making. ,” she stated.
The Census Program Manager also underlined that importance of discussion with ministries and agency on RPHC-5 results “The Fifth Rwanda Population and Housing Census provides invaluable data that serves as a foundation for evidence-based policy and strategic planning. The session includes in-depth presentations on key census findings, discussions on sector-specific implications, and an open forum for participants to explore how data can best inform their policies and programs. Participants engaged in discussions on the implications of the findings for their respective sectors, highlighting opportunities to integrate the data into social policies and development programs.
