In the first quarter of 2023, Rwanda’s total trade was US$ 2,047.02 million, an increase of 38 percent over the first quarter of 2022. Domestic exports were US$ 4,23.89 million; imports were US$ 1,466.90 million and re-exports were US$ 156.23 million.

The deficit in the balance of formal trade in goods was US$ 328.84 million in May 2023, an increase of 28.16 per cent compared to the previous month of April. Year-over-year, the formal trade in goods deficit increased by 8.17 per cent on the deficit of May 2022.

The deficit in the balance of formal trade in goods was US$ 256.58 million in April 2023, a decrease of 20.33 per cent compared to the previous month of March. Year-over-year, the formal trade in goods deficit increased by 0.15 per cent on the deficit of April 2022.

The deficit in the balance of formal trade in goods was US$ 322.04 million in March 2023, an increase of 18.99 per cent compared to the previous month of February. Year-over-year, the formal trade in goods deficit increased by 15.98 per cent on the deficit of March 2022.

The deficit in the balance of formal trade in goods was US$ 270.64 million in February 2023, a decrease of 7.99 per cent compared to the previous month of January. Year-over-year, the formal trade in goods deficit increased by 65.95 per cent on the deficit of February 2022.

The deficit in the balance of formal trade in goods was US$ 294.13 million in January 2023, an increase of 0.06 per cent compared to the previous month of December 2022. Year-over-year, the formal trade in goods deficit increased by 39.96 per cent on the deficit of January 2022.
