On this day, NISR holds a staff general assembly where top management and staff discuss various issues, such as improving labor in the institution, NISR TONTINE, and solidarity.

The idea of celebrating Labor Day stems from the labor union movement in the United States in the 19th century. On May 1, 1886, around two hundred thousand workers called for a nationwide strike demanding an eight-hour workday. Later, the protest took a violent turn in Chicago, leading to the Haymarket Affair.
