Every year on May 1st, Rwanda and NISR join with other countries and institutions to celebrate the achievements of workers. On this day, NISR holds a staff general assembly where top management and staff discuss various issues, such as improving labor in the institution, NISR TONTINE, and solidarity.

The DDG gives opening remarks, recognizing all staff for their hard work and accomplishment of different tasks.

Labor Day is a holiday that celebrates the achievements and contributions of workers in various industries. It is typically observed on May 1st and is a day where people around the world come together to recognize and appreciate the hard work and dedication of employees.

In the context of NISR, Labor Day may include various activities such as staff meeting, discussions on labor-related issues, and recognition of employees who have excelled in their work. In this case, the top management of NISR has awarded Mr. Sother UYISABYE the Best Employee of the Year 2023. This is a significant honor and acknowledges the hard work, dedication, and contributions of the recipient to the institution.

The award may be given to an employee who has demonstrated exceptional performance, innovation, leadership, or teamwork. The recognition of outstanding employees is an essential part of any organization's culture and serves as a motivation for other employees to strive for excellence in their work.

The idea of celebrating Labor Day stems from the labor union movement in the United States in the 19th century. On May 1, 1886, around two hundred thousand workers called for a nationwide strike demanding an eight-hour workday. Later, the protest took a violent turn in Chicago, leading to the Haymarket Affair.
