In the 3rd quarter of the year 2016, GDP at current market prices was estimated at Rwf 1,662 billion, up from Rwf 1,506 billion in the same quarter of 2015. GDP grew by 5.2% compared to the same quarter in 2015.Sectors performed as follows:

  • Agriculture: 1%
  • Industry: 7%
  • Services: 6%

Services continue to lead in terms of shares to GDP with 48% compared to 33% and 13% shares for agriculture and industry respectively.

In agriculture, food crop growth was 2% in 2016 season B. Export crops also continued to decline by -13% mainly due to a -14% drop in coffee and -23% drop in tea.
Industry recovered mainly boosted by construction whose growth was 12%.

Wholesale and retail trade growth was good at 9%, hotels and restaurants at 6% and public administration at 19%. Information and communication however dropped by -2%.

So far the average GDP growth for the first 3 quarters of 2016 is about 6%.
