First ever SMS-based application in statistical data collection, dissemination

The National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) has launched a new SMS-based application which will facilitate the task of collecting and disseminating statistics information in real-time.
 
It is said the new technology which is currently under testing phase will have instant and confortable access to statistical information.
 
The question of "Who stands to to benefit from the newly introduced SMS technology, has a short answer: all cell phone owners.  Decision makers, individuals and other institutions in both public and private sectors are only few of the structures that will gain in a real time as the new technology is implemented.

It has three main purposes: Information and indicators dissemination, public SMS interaction with the system and data collection though Android mobile phones.
 
But the ultimate winners are all users of statistical data dedicated to contribute in  making good decisions based on objective evidence, who will from now on have access to statistical information at their fingertips, and more time to enjoy the new mobile phone-based technology.
 
This innovation- similar to the existing Short Message Service (SMS) - but tailored for the specific purpose of collecting and disseminating official statistics to various stakeholders  eliminates the problem of complexity and high cost that previouslv burdened the task of collecting and disseminating statistics data in Rwanda.
 
The new SMS-based application meant not only for various stakeholders, but it can also be used for a wide variety of purposes by numerous mobile phone users.
 
The new application to be also used by Statistical Data Collectors on the field in sending directly all collected information securely to the central database at NISR, is the ultimate user-friendly application that will be fast and convenient to use will all mobile clients device.
