1. Overview:

The National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) is the central agency responsible for the production and dissemination of official statistics in Rwanda, and the overall coordination of the National Statistical System NSS). As part of its mandate to promote statistical literacy and enhance public understanding of key statistics, NISR organizes an annual Infographic Competition.

This competition encourages students to creatively transform statistical reports published on the NISR website into visually engaging and informative infographics. By simplifying complex statistical information, these infographics make the data more accessible and easier for the public to understand, fostering a greater appreciation for the importance of statistics among young people.

  1. The objective of the competition:

The main objective of the Infographic Competition is to promote statistical literacy by equipping students with essential skills to interpret and analyze data, thereby enhancing their ability to make informed decisions in a data-driven world. Additionally, the competition encourages participants to present statistical information in visually engaging formats, making complex data more accessible and understandable to a broader audience.

The Infographic Competition will significantly enhance NISR communication of its data by generating infographics that simplify complex information, making it more accessible and understandable to the public. As participants engage with NISR reports, the competition will increase awareness of the Institute’s role in the production of official statistics that inform national development and policymaking. Additionally, the competition will promote enhanced data access and usage, as students learn to navigate NISR data through the website, interpret it meaningfully, and present it in engaging visual formats.
