Rwanda's Consumer Price Index(CPI), main gauge of inflation increased by 15.9 percent in August 2022 compared to the same month of 2021.
‘Food and non-alcoholic beverages’ increased by 29.2 percent, ‘Housing water, electricity, gas and other fuels’ increased by 7.5 percent, Transport increased by 12.6 percent and Restaurants and Hotels increased by 18.5 percent.
The CPI for August 2022 increased by 0.5 percent compared to July 2022. ‘Food and non alcoholic beverages increased by 0.3 percent and Transport increased by 1.4 percent.
The underlying inflation rate (excluding fresh food and energy) increased by 12.7 percent when compared to August 2021 and increased by 0.4 percent when compared to July 2022.
The annual average inflation rate between August 2022 and August 2021 is 7.3 percent. The annual average underlying inflation rate is 7.1 percent.
