Rwanda’s Consumer Price Index (CPI), main gauge of inflation increased by 15.7 percent year on year in August 2026 up from 14.5 percent in July 2026.

In August 2026, ‘Food and non-alcoholic beverages’ increased by 16.3 percent on annual basis and it increased by 3.7 percent on monthly basis. ‘Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels’ increased by 20.4 percent on annual basis and it increased by 0.2 percent on monthly basis. Transport increased by 24.2 percent on annual basis and it increased by 0.2 percent on monthly basis. ‘Restaurants and Hotels’ increased by 15.6 percent on annual basis and it increased by 2 percent on monthly basis. 

The data also show the “local products” increased by 17.4 percent on annual basis and it increased by 2.1 percent on monthly basis, while prices of the “imported products” increased by 10.8 percent on annual basis and it increased by 0.7 percent on monthly basis.

The prices of the “fresh products” increased by 20.9 percent on annual change and it increased by 5.8 percent on monthly basis.

The prices of the “energy” increased by 45.4 percent on annual change and it increased by 0.2 percent on monthly basis.

The prices of the “general Index excluding fresh products and energy” increased by 11.5 percent on annual change and it increased by 0.7 percent on monthly basis.
