The NISR has conducted the Seasonal Agriculture Survey with the aim to provide more comprehensive data on Rwandan agriculture sector. During 2022 Season A, data collection started from 5th December 2021 and ended on 24th February 2022 covering 1,200 segments and 336 large scale farmers’ holdings across the country.

The total country land area is estimated at 2.377 million of hectares for which 1.402 million hectares (59.0% of total country land) is used for agriculture. Out of the total agricultural land, 1.06 million hectares were used for Seasonal crops in season A, nearly 0.6 million hectares are area under permanent crops, while 0.135 million ha under permanent pasture. The crop production for major of crops has increased except for maize and beans with a drop of 7.8 percent and 8.9 percent respectively when compared to the season A of the last year.
