Gross Domestic Product and its structure
In the fiscal year 2025/26, GDP at current market prices was estimated at 25,833 billion, up from 21,513 billion Rwandan franc in 2024/25. In this fiscal year, the service sector contributed 52% to GDP; followed by industry sector which contributed 22%, and the agriculture sector contributed 20%. Net indirect taxes accounted for 5%.
Growth rate by kind of activity
In the fiscal year 2025/26, GDP at constant 2024 prices increased by 10.6%. Sector performed as follows:
- Agriculture increased by 7%.
- Industry increased by 16%.
- Services increased by 8%.
- Agriculture sector
The overall performance of agriculture was 7% and contributed 1.5 points to the overall GDP growth rate. Within agriculture, food crops production increased by 4%. The export crops production increased by 21%, livestock production increased by 7%, forest production increased by 6% while fishing increased by 56%.
- Industry sector
The overall industry grew by 16% and contributed 3.7 percentage points to the overall GDP growth rate. Within industry, Mining activities increased by 26%, manufacturing activities increased by 13% while construction activities increased by 18%.
Within manufacturing; metal products, machinery and equipment increased by 38%, non-metallic mineral products increased by 38% and chemical, rubber and plastic products increased by 18%. On the other hand, furniture and other manufacturing decreased by 3%.
- Service sector
The overall growth in service sector grew 8% and contributed 4.1 percentage points to the overall GDP growth rate. Wholesale and retail trade increased by 16%; transport activities increased by 10%. In other services, information and communication increased by 22%, professional, scientific and technical activities increased by 15%. On the other hand, hotels and restaurants decreased by 4%.
Expenditure on GDP
In 2025/26 private final consumption was 69%, government final consumption was 14% and gross capital formation was 30%. Total final consumption expenditure increased by 9%, exports of goods and services decreased by 10%, and imports of goods and services increased 4%.
