In third quarter of 2025, GDP at current market prices was estimated at Frw 5,525 billion, up from Frw 4,659 billion in 2024 Q3. Services contributed 57% to GDP, agriculture contributed 15% while industry contributed 22%. Net direct taxes accounted for 6%.

Growth rate by economic activity

In third quarter of 2025, the GDP growth was 11.8%, following the growth rate of 7.8% in the second quarter and 6.5% in the first quarter.

Growth in sectors were as follow:

  • Agriculture increased by 10%.
  • Industry increased by 17%.
  • Services increased by 10%.

Agriculture

The overall growth of the agriculture sector was 10% and contributed 1.5 percentage points to the overall GDP growth rate. 

Within agriculture, food crops production increased by 4%. The export crops production increased by 35%, livestock increased by 6% while fishing increased by 34%.

Industry 

The overall growth of industry was 17% and contributed 3.7 percentage points to the overall GDP growth rate. Within industry, mining and quarrying increased by 14%, construction activities increased by 20%, while manufacturing activities increased by 14%.

The growth in manufacturing was boosted by an increase of production of non-metallic mineral (mainly cement) which increased by 44%, the production of metal products which increased by 28% while the production of chemicals increased by 25%. Food processing increased by 12%.

Services

The overall growth of the services sector was 10% and contributed 5.5 percentage points to the overall GDP growth rate. Within service sector, wholesale and retail trade increased by 20%; transport services increased by 9%. 

Among other services, information & communication services increased by 17%, financial services increased by 10%, while hotels and restaurants decreased by 3%. Public administration services increased by 7%, education services increased by 5%, and health services decreased by 16%.
