In May 2021, the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) shows that, industrial output (formal sector) increased by 40.7 percent compared to May 2020, against an increase of 6.2 percent on annual average basis.
Producer Price Index Report,May 2021
Rwanda’s general Producer Price Index combining both prices for local and export products registered an annual increase of 5.4 percent in May 2021. Monthly general PPI increased by 0.3 percent. Local PPI increased by 4.3 percent in May 2021, and Export PPI increased by 11.6 percent in May 2021.
Formal external trade in Goods report (May 2021)
The deficit in the balance of formal trade in goods was US$ 218.26 million in May 2021, an increase of 34.43 per cent compared to the previous month of April. Year-over-year, the formal trade in goods deficit increased by 89.44 per cent on the deficit of May 2020.

Formal external trade in Goods report (April 2021)
The deficit in the balance of formal trade in goods was US$ 162.36 million in April 2021, a decrease of 16.07 per cent compared to the previous month of March. Year-over-year, the formal trade in goods deficit increased by 17.62 per cent on the deficit of April 2020.
GDP National Accounts (First Quarter 2021)
In the first quarter of 2021, GDP at current market prices was estimated to be Frw 2,579 billion, up from Frw 2,410 billion in Q1 2020. In this quarter, services sector contributed 46 percent of GDP, agriculture sector contributed 27 percent of the GDP, Industry sector contributed 20 percent of the GDP and 8 percent was attributed to adjustment for taxes and subsidies on products.
Formal external trade in Goods report (Q1,2021)
In the first quarter of 2021, Rwanda’s total trade was US$ 1040.19 million, a decrease of 14 percent over the first quarter of 2020. Exports were US$ 161.83 million, imports were US$ 769.77 million and re-exports were US$ 108.59 million.
Consumer Price Index (CPI) - May 2021
Urban CPI decreased by 0.1 percent on annual basis (May 2021 and May 2020) and decreased by 0.5 percent on monthly basis (May 2021 to April 2021). The annual average inflation rate between May 2021 to May 2020 was 4.9 percent.
Labour Force Survey 2020, Thematic Report, Gender
This report is the result of the analysis of Labour Force Survey 2020. It sets out a broad overview of trends and gender gaps, including gaps in labour force participation rates, employment-to-population ratios and unemployment rates, along with differences in labour market status and the type of activities that men and women perform in the labour market, hours spent in paid and unpaid work and sectoral and occupational segregation. It also discusses the extent to which these factors account for gender gaps in wages and social protection.
