In the second quarter, GDP at current market prices was estimated at 7,174 billion Rwandan franc, up from 5,799 billion Rwandan francs in the same quarter of 2025. 

In this quarter, the services sector contributed 51% to GDP, followed by the industry which contributed 23% to GDP and the agriculture sector which contributed 21% to GDP. Net indirect taxes accounted for 5%.

Growth rate by kind of activity

In the second quarter of 2026, GDP at constant 2024 prices increased by 9.4% when compared to the same quarter of 2025.

Within sectors, growths were as follows:

  • Agriculture grew by 4%. 
  • Industry increased by 18%.
  • Services increased by 7%.

Agriculture

The overall agriculture sector grew 4% and contributed 1.0 percentage points to the overall GDP growth rate. Within agriculture, food crops production increased by 5%, export crops production decreased by 20%, livestock production increased by 6%, forestry increased by 6% while fishing increased by 66%.

Industry 

The overall industry sector grew by 18% and contributed 3.9 percentage points to the overall GDP growth rate. Within industry, mining and quarrying increased by 26%, construction activities increased by 24%, while manufacturing activities increased by 10%.

The growth in manufacturing was driven by a 51% increase in manufacturing of metal products, machinery & equipment, a 22% increase in manufacturing of non-metallic mineral products, 13% increase in manufacturing of textiles and leather products and food processing increased by 2%.

Services

The services sector grew by 7% and contributed 3.7 percentage points to the overall GDP growth rate. Within services, wholesale and retail trade increased by 18%; transport services increased by 7%. Among other services information & communication services increased by 29%, financial services increased by 4%, administration and support services increased by 9%, hotels and restaurants increased by 5%. On the other hand, public administration services decreased by 3%, and health services decreased by 39%.

Expenditure GDP 

In the second quarter of 2026, private final consumption expenditure was 74 % of the GDP, government final consumption expenditure was 14% while gross capital formation was estimated at 25% of GDP.

Total final consumption expenditure increased by 9%, with household final consumption expenditure increasing by 13% while government final consumption expenditure decreased by 6%. Exports of goods & services increased by 19%; imports of goods & services increased by 36% while gross capital formation increased by 32%.
